Mike Senn...
Saxophonist and clarinet player Mike Senn was born in London in 1929. He began playing professionally in late 1945 and in 1947 was playing at the Embassy Club in London with Carl Barriteau before joining Tommy Sampson for a spell in 1948.
Other dance band work followed but from November 1950 to March 1951 he was with Kathy Stobart's band. He had spells with Basil Kirchin in 1952, 1954 and 1957.
He left full time music for a period in during 1952 to 1954 and from April 1955 to September 1956 he was in Tubby Hayes' ill starred octet.

Mike Senn (c1955) From 1957, with Jack Sharpe, he co-led the Downbeaters who later formed the basis for the Downbeat Big Band.
From 1958 he also partnered Jack Sharpe in the forming and running of the Downbeat Club in London.
He played in Kenny Baker's Dozen from 1959 to 1960 but later quit full time playing to concentrate on copying and arranging.
