Cab Kaye discography...
Cab Kaye born in London in 1921 was the son of Caleb Quaye a professional drummer who worked under the name of Mope Desmond. He changed his surname to Kaye and became a successful singer and pianist who also played guitar and drums. He worked with Billy Cotton 1936/7 as a speciality act. He then had brief spells with other bands including Ivor Kirchin in late 1940. In the early war years he was in the Merchant Navy before being invalided out and was briefly with Harry Parry in 1943. From 1943 to 1944 he led his own band at the 'Orchard Club' playing drums and doing vocals with Dick Katz on piano and Charles Scott on bass. Ronnie Scott was with him for a time. It was a free-and-easy sort of place and trumpet player Johnny Claes often used to come down and sit in and Scott went on to join Claes.

Kaye began to work on the continent and was in Belgium 1946/7. On his return he sang with Tito Burns in 1948 and Denis Rose recalls a Sidney Gross Swing Shop concert that he did in January 1948 with Cab Kaye, Tony Crombie, Ronnie Scott and some others.
Thereafter Kaye spent long periods on the continent, (Holland, France and Germany), returning to Britain for various residencies and a spell with Eric Delaney in 1957. He spent most of the 1960s in Africa working for the Ghananian Government. From then on he played various residencies in Switzerland, Holland and the UK from the 1970s, through to the 1990s including a long residency in Amsterdam through the 1980s. He died in Holland in March 2000.
