Chris Pyne...
Trombone player Chris Pyne was born in Bridlington, Yorkshire in February, 1939. He was the elder brother of piano player Mick Pyne and played piano in early childhood before switching to trombone. He served in the RAF before coming to London in the early 1960s where he played with Alexis Korner's Blues Incorporated from 1963 to 1965.
He was with Humphrey Lyttelton's mainstream band from late 1966 until 1970 also leading his own sextet and working with John Dankworth, Tubby Hayes and Ronnie Scott among others.
Through the 1970s he worked with a string of top bands including the Mick Pyne Sextet, John Taylor Sextet, and with Maynard Ferguson, Mike Gibbs, Tony Coe, Kenny Wheeler, Ronnie Ross, the Ian Hamer Sextet and the Bobby Lamb-Ray Premru Band.
He also played in bands accompanying Ella Fitzgerald, Sarah Vaughan and Frank Sinatra. In the '80s and '90s he did a lot of freelance, theatre and recording work as well as working with the big bands of Jack Sharpe and Stan Tracey. He died in April, 1995.
